St. Gregory The Great intermediate students host 2nd annual ICAN Exposition! The ICAN initiative is in its 3rd year at St. Gregory The Great and has quickly become popular among many students, boosting approximately 120 members as student ambassadors who are committed to creating a more inclusive and accepting environment. During the month of May the intermediate students had been working on researching, planning, and preparing for the 3rd annual ICAN Expo which took place on June 4th 2015. It is a time when students have the opportunity to showcase their work and inform their peers about the many challenges some people face on a daily basis, but more importantly, with a focus on how they have overcome those challenges on their way to success. Students choose exceptionalities that they wanted to learn more about, researched those exceptionalities and created presentations complete with display boards, interactive activities and informational brochures. Once complete, they then invited classes to the library where small groups of students were engaged in informative presentations and activities all centered around promoting acceptance through education and understanding. The Inclusive Community Ambassador Network is a student lead program that is facilitated by teachers which strives to create opportunities for all students to be included and engaged in their school and larger community. As it is chanted in their motto, our ambassadors would be quick to tell you, I CAN make a difference and so can you!!
