Sarah Westbrook, a motivational speaker was invited to St. Gregory the Great on May 8, 2015. Her message helped young people to think and act beyond their feelings so that they can choose to be resilient, confident and respectful.
St. Gregory the Great Catholic Academy in Woodbridge recently held a simulation activity where students had a first-hand experience to learn what it’s like to live with a disability.
ICAN Poster Challenge
Bullying awareness week (November 16-22) was marked by ICAN Calendar Contest. Students in primary, junior and intermediate division were challenged to create a poster representing inclusion, recognizing diversity and advocating for acceptance. The posters were collected and judged based on originality, message and creativity. Winners were chosen from each division and their artwork was published in the official SGG ICAN Calendar. These calendars were then sold in December to parents/guardians; making great Christmas gifts.
Beginning January ICAN Intermediate students were assigned to Grade 1 to 5 classes (2 male/2 female) and became the ICAN Games Club Ambassadors for the 2015 school year. They visited classes during all indoor procedures with a box full of games. Their mission was to support inclusion, modelling acceptance and facilitating respectful play. What a treausre to have such dedicated ICAN students work diligently with their younger students to create a safe, caring and supportive school climate.
Grade 7 students researched about different exceptionalities and held a learning Expo for the entire school!
Exceptionalities Picture Books
